Outdoor Spring Activities Near Newport
Spring at Newport is a magical time. Seemingly from one day to the next, our neighborhood shifts from the chilly, gray days of winter to the sunny hope of spring, where every tree and flower on the block is suddenly in bloom! The change in seasons here also brings a ton of great new outdoor and spring-inspired events in Jersey City to take advantage of. This week, we’ve rounded up some of the best spring activities happening in and around JC right now… we hope you get a chance to check them out soon!
Enjoy Drive-In Movie Night
Together with Exchange Place Alliance, JC Families is hosting a series of drive-in movie nights this month at 107 Morgan Street. Tickets are nearly sold out for the upcoming showing this Friday, but there are still plenty of spots available for the following screening on April 30th, featuring 80s classic The Goonies! Tickets are $20 per car and can be reserved here.
See The Blooming Cherry Blossoms
Newport and downtown Jersey City are filled with tons of green space and gorgeous parks to enjoy watching spring bloom in our city. One of the particular highlights of springtime is seeing the cherry blossoms bloom, and our area parks offer lots of opportunity for taking in all the beauty! We recommend heading to Liberty State Park, Hamilton Park, or Van Vorst Park for ideal cherry blossom viewing.
Cheer on Your Favorite Baseball Team
As of April 1st, NYC’s outdoor stadiums are now permitted to reopen at 20% capacity, meaning it’s finally time to grab a hot dog and spend the afternoon rooting in-person for your favorite area major league baseball team! Find Mets single game tickets on sale here and Yankees tickets here. There are certain covid-19 related safety precautions in place for attendance, so be sure to check all recent rules and regulations beforehand here.
Take a Farm Trip
A trip out to Alstede Farms in Chester, NJ is a terrific way to spend a spring afternoon. Visit with farm animals like horses, goats, sheeps, and donkeys, wander through corn, sunflower, and evergreen mazes, and then grab some lunch at The Hen House. The farm also offers the opportunity to pick your own seasonally-available fruits and veggies, so come home with a bounty of fresh strawberries, tomatoes, and other goodies.
Visit a Nearby Playground
If you have little ones at home, scoping out the local playground scene is a must! Our very own Newport Green is a veritable wonderland for children, with acres of sprawling green space, multiple playgrounds, a water park, and a spectacular carousel. Nearby Liberty State Park has great options for outdoor play too, with two playgrounds featuring large climbing structures, slides, tunnels, monkey bars, and more.
We hope your spring is filled with lots of sunny days and new adventures! Show us what spring activities you check out by tagging us at #YourNewport!
