The winter months can be a challenging time to find motivation to get out and get moving during even the BEST of times. Who wants to bundle up and face the chillier temps when there’s always a new show to stream! But now more than ever, taking care of our health and wellness is super important. And fortunately, our Newport neighborhood has some great area fitness options for mixing up the routine and inspiring better well-being. This week, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite health & wellness activities for winter, so take a look and let us know which ones you try! 

Hot Yoga at Surya Yoga Academy

Beat the chill and find the warmth of inner peace in a hot yoga class at Surya Yoga Academy. Whether looking to de-stress, stretch the body, or strengthen your practice, the variety of classes at Surya helps every yogi find what they need! Sweat Sesh At Home

Full Body Workout at Jane Do

Female-led local favorite Jane Do offers high intensity total body workouts geared towards empowering and strengthening every woman! Book small group in-studio (and weather permitting outdoor) classes at their Jersey City location here and find virtual live stream class options here. Workouts feature a variety of dance-based movement, high & low intensity cardio, and strength training for an optimal fitness experience.

     

Jog or Stroll Along the Waterfront

Bundle up on a sunny day for a walk or jog along Newport's stunning waterfront walkway - the crisp air is just the thing to shake off the winter blues! Take in picturesque views of lower Manhattan and the glittering Hudson River. Bring a friend along to join in some safe outdoor fun that’s sure to leave everyone’s spirits lifted. The waterfront walkway is also perfect for bike riding!

 

Hike in Hudson Valley 

Head out to Bear Mountain State Park in the Hudson Valley for a day of fantastic winter hiking in a spectacular upstate NY setting. About an hour and a half from Newport, the mountain’s somewhat challenging trails offer plenty of reward at the top - enjoy sweeping views of the Hudson River and even the faraway NYC skyline if viewed from the right vantage point. Taking a step away to unwind in nature is the perfect mini reset, and a great boost to physical and mental well-being!
