Mother's Day at Newport

Mother’s Day is less than a week away. If you don’t have plans yet, don’t worry! There is a ton to do in the Newport area with your family. Read on for some local ways for you and your family to celebrate. Happy Mother’s Day!

 

Gifts

When it comes to gifts it’s the thought that counts. Breakfast in Bed is a go-to for many families across the country because it allows the family to pamper mom. Pick up some flowers from Morton Williams and then pick up coffee and a pastry from Bwe Kafe. Mom will love the thoughtful gesture!

If you prefer to give Mom a physical gift, head over to Newport Centre. A great smelling candle with a spring inspired scent from Yankee Candle shouldn’t break the bank. Or, stop by Bath & Body Works to pick up Mom some new body lotion or fragrance. There’s also a Sephora. Stock up on Mom’s favorite products or get her a gift card.

You can also give Mom an experiential gift. Salon Be on River Drive offers haircuts, manicures and pedicures, massages and more. Gift mom with a whole day dedicated to relaxation.

 

Activities

There’s an opportunity to start Mother’s Day early. On May 11th, Vibgyor Creations is offering a Mommy & Me paint night! Mom and kids can create art together plus they get to keep the art as a souvenir. 

Make your day active by heading outdoors. Rent bikes from Citi Bike and go for a ride down the Newport Waterfront. Consider even adventuring into the Hamilton Park district of Jersey City, which is beautiful this time of year.

Out To Eat

There are dozens of restaurants to choose from in the Newport and Jersey City area for Mother’s Day. 

If you are interested in waterfront views make a reservation at Battello or Taphaus. Batello has a special Mother’s Day Brunch and Prix-Fixe dinner. Taphaus is accepting reservations for Brunch, Lunch and Dinner.

Ruth’s Chris opens early on Mother’s Day at noon. If you’re looking for something more lowkey, Loradella’s Pizzeria on River Dr. has pizza by the slice as well as delicious Italian meals that every age enjoys.

 

 

 

Make Food at Home

Keep it intimate and make food at home with your loved ones. Homemade pizza is a great option for getting the kids involved - they can knead the dough, spread the sauce and sprinkle the cheese on top. Or, do a mini potluck where each family member is in charge of a portion of the meal. They say memories are made in the kitchen!

 

Sweet Treats

Mom deserves a treat! There are a number of great spots for dessert. Milk Sugar Love in Hamilton Park offers delicious Ice Cream with weekly specials like Burnt Marshmallow and Goat Cheese Raspberry Ripple. There’s Ample Hills on Greene St. that has unique flavors as well, like “Breakfast Trash” which is cereal-flavored ice cream.

If you decide to stay in, make some homemade cookies or cupcakes. Inspire the whole family to get creative by offering a variety of icings and toppings.

Mom doesn’t have much of a sweet tooth? Say no more. A glass of her favorite wine from Newport Spirits should be an equally thoughtful way to end the day.
