Lighthouse at Waterfront Walkway

Become a tourist for a day in your own Newport neighborhood! Each season brings a new breath of life, things to do and new places to explore so why not take a different route home one day and check out what Newport has to offer!

First on the list: The iconic LeFrak Point Lighthouse! As a historic landmark the LeFrak Point Lighthouse is an integral part of the Newport neighborhood. With panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline, the lighthouse is definitely a destination spot to view the city in the best possible way as the season changes. Now that autumn is in full swing, the lighthouse is the perfect spot to take in the breathtakingly beautiful views that you get to call your backyard, and makes for a great picture as well!

Along with the lighthouse, Newport’s grounds have so much to offer with the skyline walkway, Newport Green, children’s playground and dog run all in walking distance to each other. Take a leisurely walk to bwe kafé with a friend and take in the Manhattan skyline or get in a morning run with views to motivate you. With a neighborhood like Newport, there is never a lack of places to explore. Although the weather is in full autumn swing, the Newport Green offers way more than just its beach. With panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline it makes for the perfect backdrop to explore the many walkways and playgrounds that the Newport Green has to offer. If you’re looking to let your furry friend stretch their legs look no further than the Newport dog run! The dog run offers your pet a safe haven to run free and socialize with other community companions. FYI! As we are entering November, and the weather continues to approach winter, look for the ice skating rink open from mid-November – March (weather permitting)! Located at the River Market you can participate in drop-in classes, group classes or private lessons!

Waterfront WalkwayThe Newport Centre shopping mall has been a major attraction to the Newport, Jersey City area since 1987. From shopping, dining and entertainment, the modern Newport Centre has everything you need from a quick shop to an all-day shopping spree. Offering your favorite restaurant chains like The Cheesecake Factory, Chipotle, Chick-fil-A, Johnny Rockets and more! With many shopping options from high-end to affordable shopping there is never any shortage of options from Sephora, Macy’s, H&M, Bath & Body Works, Adidas, Armani Exchange, Coach and many more to satisfy your shopping needs (and wants). Arguably one of the many perks of living at Newport is that there is a local AMC theatre in walking distance to you so you don’t have to worry about traffic or ticket waiting times and can decide to see a movie last minute and not have to worry about getting there!

If you want to take a historic trip in your own neighboring neighborhood, check out Hamilton Park and rediscover the history of what it has to offer. Hamilton Park is named after Alexander Hamilton, the country’s first secretary of the treasury under President Washington. Hamilton lost a duel with Aaron Burr on the Palisades nearby Weehawken NJ. From this close proximity, the plan to make Hamilton Park was created to honor Alexander Hamilton throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. The park became more reformed and renovated and is now how we know it today, a beautiful scenic park perfect for a picnic, with basketball and tennis courts, playgrounds, a dog run and a central gazebo. The surrounding area of Hamilton Park also has a lot to offer with several restaurant and cafes to choose from. The Hamilton Inn plays off of the local history with lots of yummy lunch and brunch options. If you’re looking for a sweet treat check out Milk Sugar Love for countless incredible ice cream flavors like Cherry Cheesecake, Chocolate Chipotle Cherry, Maple Bacon Toffee or Matcha Brownie! YUM!
